:-)

This is me 🙂

Hi, I’m Omar from Spain. I studied Telecommunication Engineering on Gran Canaria, my home, and started to focus on optics and photonics during my diploma thesis. Since January 2016 I have been fortunate enough to be one of the 14 Early Stage Researchers selected to work in the GraWIToN Project, developing my career as a researcher and doing my PhD in Laser Zentrum Hannover, Germany. My task within GraWIToN is to study new concepts of high power fiber amplifiers for laser sources. Fiber amplifiers are promising candidates to be used in the next generation of gravitational waves detectors. It’s an amazing field!

I guess at this point it won’t come as a surprise if I say that some of my hobbies are engineering, astronomy, and science and technology in general. Apart from this I love sports. I like participating in popular races, and I hope that one day I can run a marathon! It will be, together with my PhD, a big milestone in my personal self improvement.

Living in Hannover is great. Of course I miss my friends, the food and the weather of the Canary Islands, but there are a bunch of good things that make it worth it. Between a lot of nearby cities to explore and a lot of cultural events to see like concerts and exhibitions, the new culture and the people here really make the experience worth it!
